Alanya Mayor Inspects Storm-Damaged Sapadere Canyon, Restoration Underway
Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik visited Sapadere Canyon, which suffered severe damage due to a recent storm. The canyon, currently closed for repairs and safety precautions, is undergoing restoration to ensure it can safely welcome visitors again. The mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Hasan Servet Ünlü, Public Works Director Atahan Uyar, Business and Affiliates Director Bilal Nurgül, and Disaster Management Director Mehmet Ali Sivri.
Mayor Özçelik: “Our Priority Is Visitor Safety”
Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik emphasized that while the repair work has been completed, ensuring visitor safety remains the top priority. He stated:
“In late December, a storm and heavy rainfall caused rockfalls that severely damaged the walking paths of Sapadere Canyon. We have now completed the necessary repairs on the walkways. However, beyond the walkways, we must also prioritize the safety of tourists and local visitors. That’s why we are assessing on-site proposals for upper protective barriers to prevent future risks.”
Reopening Soon for Tourism
Mayor Özçelik confirmed that preliminary safety measures are nearly finalized and emphasized their commitment to reopening the canyon as soon as possible.
“Together with my team, we have discussed the necessary steps to restore Sapadere Canyon. We have also consulted with the local community to explore collaborative efforts. I have given immediate instructions to accelerate the process. As of tomorrow, restoration work will continue without delay, ensuring that the canyon is once again accessible to the public and tourists.”
Sapadere Canyon is one of Alanya’s most popular natural attractions, known for its breathtaking landscapes, waterfalls, and scenic walking paths. Once reopened, it will once again offer visitors a unique experience in the heart of nature.
