Discover Alanya’s Heritage: Keykubat Migration & Caravan Route Hike Brings Nature and History Together

Alanya’s Keykubat Caravan Route, Alanya once again showcased its unique blend of natural beauty and historical heritage with the successful completion of the Keykubat Migration and Caravan Route Hike. Organized for the second time by Alanya Municipality, the 7-kilometer trek brought together 150 nature lovers and history enthusiasts of all ages, creating an unforgettable outdoor experience.

This special event, which aims to preserve the region’s cultural identity while supporting the growth of sports and eco-tourism in Alanya, attracted the participation of Alanya Deputy Mayor Murat Levent Koçak and Municipal Council Members Haydar Uyar and İrem Yunusoğlu.

A Journey Through Time: From Güneycik Village to Aydolin

Led by archaeologist Osman Yılmaz, the hike began at the historic mosque in Güneycik Neighborhood (Gündoğmuş). Participants followed a forest trail for 350 meters before reaching the impressive Ali Bridge, a remarkable architectural legacy from the Beyliks period.

During the break at the bridge, Deputy Mayor Koçak, Council Member Yunusoğlu, and participants who previously attended the municipality’s Zeybek courses performed a traditional Zeybek dance, adding a cultural touch to the experience.

The route continued upward along the ancient caravan road, gaining another 350 meters of elevation before ending at Aydolin, located in Alanya’s Saburlar neighborhood. This scenic ascent offered breathtaking views and a meaningful connection to the region’s past.

Participants Loved the Experience

The carefully selected route not only highlighted Alanya’s stunning landscapes but also allowed hikers to trace the footsteps of historical caravans and nomadic communities. Surrounded by the crisp air of the Taurus Mountains, participants encountered several archaeological traces dating back to the Keykubat era.

All 150 hikers expressed great satisfaction with the event’s organization and the rewarding balance between challenge and enjoyment. Many emphasized that such activities are essential for promoting Alanya’s historical heritage and natural attractions to both locals and visitors.

“Reviving the Keykubat Caravan Routes”

Deputy Mayor Murat Levent Koçak shared the municipality’s long-term vision for the project:

“This was our second hike within the Keykubat Migration and Caravan Routes Project. We completed the route from Güneycik Village to Ali Bridge, then onward to Aydolin with excellent participation. Our work will continue to revive these historical caravan routes, expand alternative tourism, and promote outdoor sports. Next week, we will sign a cooperation protocol with Konya Metropolitan Municipality to further develop and broaden the project. As long as the support continues, we plan to organize more hiking events. I sincerely thank everyone who joined us today.”
